Think of wedding stationery and you’ll immediately think of invites. However, your stationery doesn’t stop – or start – there.
Anyone who’s been married or has organised a wedding will know there’s a seemingly endless to do list. Planning begins many months before the big day and organizing wedding stationery is an early part of that planning.
Think of wedding stationery and you’ll immediately think of invites. However, your stationery doesn’t stop – or start – there.
Our wedding stationery checklist will help you plan what you need to do and when you need to do it.
Before the wedding:
Save the date cards
Particularly handy for weddings abroad or if you’re inviting guests who need to travel, save the date cards go out before the official invitations. They typically just give the names of the bride and groom, date of the wedding, location and notify guests that an invitation will follow.
Hen/stag party invites
Many couples send postcard-sized invites for their hen or stag party, especially if the party is to be abroad or themed.
Wedding invites
The wedding invite itself is the most important piece of wedding stationery you’ll have printed. You can get really creative with luxury papers and a design or feel that will set the tone for your big day.
RSVP cards
Sent with the wedding invites, RSVP cards allow your invited guests to confirm their attendance or let you know if they can’t make it.
Evening invites
Often the evening function will include many people not invited to the wedding itself so a separate invite is required.
Directions cards
These might include a map showing easy directions to the location along with contact details for hotels and other accommodation for guests who want to stay overnight after the wedding.
On the big day:
Order of service
These are handed out to guests as they enter the location of the wedding ceremony and help guests follow the proceedings. They might also include the words to hymns or songs.
“Huge thank you for the order of service booklets. I really love them! They have such a beautiful finish.
Thank you so much to you both and everyone at Northside Graphics for all your help with both these booklets and the invitations a few months ago. You made this part of the process much easier!” – Esther
Table plans
Table plans might be handed to guests or printed on large boards on the way into the reception.
Place cards
Folded place cards allow people to find their seats quickly and easily when they enter the reception.
Menus
Wedding menus will be placed on tables at the reception and some couples also include the menu along with the invite. Menus will also detail options for those with specific dietary requirements.
After your wedding:
Thank you cards
Sent after the wedding to thank guests for attending and for their gifts, thank you cards are also given or sent to bridesmaids, flower girls and others who played a part in the big day.
Announcement cards
Some couples who have a small or secret wedding will send cards to friends and family after the event.
